There are more than 19 different major types of manufacturing and approximately 5,000 manufacturing companies in South Carolina. The types of manufacturing that employ the largest numbers of people are textiles, machinery, chemicals, transportation equipment, rubber & plastic, fabricated metals, and electrical equipment.

There is no limit to the number of entries from each school. Entries may be submitted from the social studies, history, art or any other school department.
Letters will be mailed to the winning students and their parents, techer and principal notifying them of their award.
The winning student and his parents, the winning teacher, the principal, and school superintendent are invited to the luncheon.
The awards will be presented to the winners at the Salute to Manufacturing Awards Luncheon to be held on May 4, 2009 at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology in Florence.

Absolutely. the SC Design Challenge is open to any student and any department. The objective is to provide a learning opportunity for all students.

The winners are invited to attend the awards luncheon. The luncheon begins at 12:00 Noon. Students are asked to arrive at 10:30 a.m. for a pre-briefing and photo sessions. The luncheon should end by 2:00 PM.
Any student in the public or private school system of South Carolina may enter the SC Design Challenge with or without a sponsor. Yes. As soon as the judging is complete (Mar. 16, 2008), the winners and their parents, teacher and principal will receive a letter notifying them of their selection.

Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology in Florence All SC Design Challenge winners and guests should check in no later than 10:30am. Directional signs will be posted in key locations. The designs will be on display in the luncheon area lobby. It is strongly suggested that you arrive between 10:00am and 10:30am to provide ample time to park and view the designs.
Photographs will be taken of the SC Design Challenge winners with the awards presenter before the awards are presented. The photo session will begin promptly at 10:30am.
The SC Design Challenge winners and guests will be escorted to the ballroom to their reserved tables for an orientation of the awards presentation immediately after the photo session.
The luncheon will be in the ballorrom at 12:00 noon.
Please dress appropriately for awards photos. Shirts and ties are recommended for gentlemen. Dresses are recommended for the ladies. Please be comfortable; room temperatures can be unpredictable.
Each winner and their parents, teacher, principal and superintendent will be invited to the luncheon and awards ceremony. Seating is limited, so we are unable to accommodate additional guests. Name badges will be ready when you arrive at the luncheon. Your RSVP must be received by April April 27, 2009.
